Sandwich

Sandwich pattern depression glass was manufactured by the Indiana Glass company from the 1920’s until the 1980’s. A very collectable pattern it has a large following. Sandwich is a depression glass pattern that has lasted well past the depression era. It’s a timeless design that really gets collectors attention.

Made in many colors some had different production years as listed below;

  • Amber: late 1920’s to 1980’s
  • Crystal: late 1920’s till present
  • Teal Blue: 1950’s till 1980’s
  • Milk White: Mid 1950’s
  • Red: 1933 and again from 1969-1970’s (some of the 1933 items are marked for the Chicago World’s Fair)
  • Smokey Blue: 1976-1977
  • Pink: 1920’s-1930’s
  • Green: 1920’s-1930’s
  • As you can see there are many different colors and periods to choose from. It’s a pattern that for the most part remains affordable.

    PYRAMID No 610

    Pyramid (also known as No. 610) was manufactured by Indiana Glass Company from 1926 to 1932. The original Pyramid items were made in crystal, pink, green and yellow.

    Note about reproductions:

    Not all depression glass has been reproduced to “fool” the novice collector. From 1974 to 1975 Tiara engaged Indiana Glass to make some pieces in blue and black, and named it their “Art Deco Collection”. If you like those colors (and they are great colors for this pattern) just be careful not to pay prices similar to those for the original depression era Pyramid pattern pieces.

    No items matching your keywords were found.

    While my experience in Upstate New York has been that depression glass is in a bit of a slump, there are pieces and patterns that continue to bring premium prices due to their rarity and collectibility. One of those items in the Pyramid pattern is the yellow ice tub. The yellow lid continues to be the rarest and hardest to find piece in the Pyramid pattern. I haven’t seen any other color but yellow for the ice tub lid in any of the price guides I consulted for this post. Therefore, I don’t really know if other colors were produced.

    As a depression glass buyer, I come across really rare depression glass pieces only occasionally. The competition is strong for those hard to find pieces, but a few months ago I was lucky to be able to purchase the ice tub with lid at an area auction. It sold on Ebay for close to $900.00, just about book value.

    The lesson for us all is that while the common depression glass patterns may be in a bit of a slump, the rare pieces and those patterns with a large collector base, continue to perform well.
